Lions International District 404B4 Nigeria Unite to create awareness for a Drug free future Seizures, stroke, mental confusion, brain damage, Lungs disease, Problems with memory, paying attention, and decision-making, which makes daily living more difficult… All these aforementioned vices are the receipts one gets from drug abuse. Lions International District 404B4, New Voices Nigeria did spread their wings and flew across the skies of igando, Lagos, creating awareness about the negative effects of drug abuse, on Saturday 17th of August 2024 with the Theme: “UNITED FOR A DRUG FREE FUTURE.” At about 10am, the 404B4 Lions had already converged at the BRT BUS Terminal Igando. The turnout of the event was impressive. Lions walked through to the District’s Secretariat, spreading the word, and sharing fliers to a few smokers they came across, passerbys, and the unawared ones along the way. The District Governor’s representative FVDG Lion Pharmacist Debo Afolayan, welcomed everyone on board to get things started, followed by the New Voices Leadership nominee Lion Irene Ikemefuna’s welcome address. There was a Special Guest speaker for the day, invited all the way from NAFDAC to put the cherry on the cake, and drive the “DRUG ABUSE” message home, like having a desert after a meal. And just like stepping a good meal down with some chilled wine, there was room for questions and Answers to foster a better understanding of the drug abuse awareness campaign Present at the event were FVDG Lion Debo Afolayan, SVDG Lion Patience Ngene Okosi, PDG Kema Ashibuogwu, New voices nominees, Club presidents, Region Chairpersons, Zone Chairpersons, and other notable Lions and Lion leaders alike. HUNGER RELIEF PROJECT FOR ENVIRONMENTAL WORKERS By Calabar Paradise Lions Club On Friday, the 12th of December 2025, members of Calabar Paradise Lions Club carried out a hunger relief intervention for Environmental Workers in Calabar Metropolis. The project was initiated to support and appreciate the tireless efforts of these workers whose services contribute significantly to community hygiene, sanitation, and environmental sustainability. Environmental sanitation workers are often unseen heroes. They brave harsh weather conditions and demanding tasks to protect public health and preserve our environment. Recognizing their invaluable contribution, the Calabar Paradise Lions Club set out at about 5.30am to not only say thank you, but to act meaningfully in the yuletide season Objectives 1. To alleviate hunger among environmental workers through the distribution of essential food baskets. 2. To provide immediate financial support through cash donations for personal or household needs. 3. To enhance worker safety and visibility during operations by issuing high-quality reflective work vests. 4. To recognize and encourage the continued dedication and commitment of environmental workers. The project brought smiles, encouragement, and renewed morale to the beneficiaries. Beyond the material support, it sent a powerful message of dignity, recognition, and solidarity: that their work matter and their service to humanity is deeply valued. LAGOS METROPOLITAN LIONS CLUB DELIVERS MAJOR BACK-TO-SCHOOL OUTREACH, EMPOWERS 600 PUPILS IN GBAGADA Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club, on Friday, 26 September 2025, successfully carried out its biggest Back-to-School Activity to date, reaffirming its commitment to youth development and quality education. The impactful outreach was held at Araromi Primary School and Kiniun Ifa Primary School in Gbagada, Lagos, where hundreds of pupils benefitted from the humanitarian gesture. The initiative was designed to support quality education by providing essential learning materials to pupils, while also easing the financial burden on parents and guardians at the start of the academic session. In line with this objective, no fewer than 600 pupils were directly reached during the exercise. As part of the intervention, the Club distributed a wide range of educational materials, including 150 leather school bags, 3,000 units of 60-leaf exercise books, 3,000 pencils, 3,000 biros, 2,000 rulers, and 2,000 erasers. Each beneficiary received a complete learning kit, ensuring that the children were well-equipped to participate fully in their academic activities. The event was marked by a lively and heart-warming atmosphere, as pupils expressed visible excitement and gratitude while receiving their school supplies. The smiles on their faces reflected renewed hope, motivation, and confidence for a successful academic journey. This landmark Back-to-School project further underscored Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club’s dedication to the global Lions cause of supporting children, youth, and education. It stood out as one of the most impactful service activities of the 2025/2026 Lions year, highlighting the Club’s resolve to make sustainable differences in the lives of young learners. The Club expressed profound appreciation to the District Governor (DG), Council Chairperson/Chairperson Advisory (CAL), Second Vice District Governor (SVDG), Past District Governors (PDGs), other Lion leaders, members, and invited guests whose presence, generosity, and support contributed immensely to the success of the programme. Through initiatives such as this, Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club continues to demonstrate that service, when driven by compassion and collective effort, remains a powerful tool for building a brighter future for society.
